Summer as a Virtual Assistant: slower pace, not less work

August has just begun, we’re halfway through summer.
In my mind, I had it all planned: a slow season, just like last year.
A bit more me-time, working outside more often, morning walks before the sun gets too warm… time to recharge.

But reality turned out a little differently.

As a Virtual Assistant, I support entrepreneurs behind the scenes. And especially during summer — when they log off and take time for themselves, their families, or travels — my work quietly continues.

In fact, it doesn’t slow down, it simply shifts.

A different rhythm, but the work remains

Yes, summer definitely has a softer tempo.
Emails trickle in slower, meetings get postponed, deadlines feel a little more flexible.
But behind the scenes, business doesn’t come to a halt.

And that’s where I come in.

While my clients take a break, I make sure:

  • their inbox stays clean and under control,
  • invoices are sent on time,
  • reminders go out as scheduled,
  • content is prepped and published,
  • and their business keeps flowing.

On top of that, summer is the perfect time to review internal processes:

→  are our workflows still efficient?

→  what can be automated or streamlined?

→  can we improve templates, replies, or communication flows?

These are the things that finally get attention once the rush dies down.

Working on a holiday island

One thing that has changed since last summer? I now live in Tenerife.

And that means that even on busy days, the holiday feeling is never far.

A walk by the sea after my last meeting, working with a view of palm trees, doing groceries in flip-flops and sunglasses. Even when I’m “on” it feels like I’m pausing at least a little.

That mindset helps me stay grounded, even when my schedule is full.

Holding space for others to switch off

Some think a Virtual Assistant is only useful during busy peak periods.
But what many entrepreneurs forget is this:
A VA is just as valuable when you want to step away.

That’s when you need someone to:

  • keep an eye on your business,
  • stay professional and responsive to your clients,
  • maintain structure and order in your absence.

So you can truly unplug without coming back to chaos.

That’s what I love most about my job: creating calm and continuity for others, while they go offline.

And you?

How’s your summer going so far?
Are you slowing down a little or fully switching off?

Whatever rhythm you’ve chosen I hope it’s one that feels good to you.
